What are the different types of neurons?

Neurons are the basic building blocks of the nervous system, responsible for carrying information throughout the body. There are several types of neurons with distinct functions:

Sensory Neurons

Sensory neurons are specialized to detect changes in the environment. They transmit sensory information from external stimuli (such as touch, light, and sound) or internal stimuli (such as temperature and chemical changes) to the central nervous system.

Motor Neurons

Motor neurons are responsible for carrying signals from the brain and spinal cord to muscles and glands, controlling movement and other bodily functions. They trigger muscle contractions and glandular secretions in response to signals from the central nervous system.

Interneurons

Interneurons act as a middleman between sensory and motor neurons. They are located entirely within the central nervous system and are responsible for processing information received from sensory neurons and sending signals to motor neurons.
