What are the different types of galaxies?

Galaxies are vast systems of stars, gas, dust, and other celestial bodies bound together by gravity. There are three main types of galaxies found in the universe: spiral galaxies, elliptical galaxies, and irregular galaxies. Each type has unique characteristics and formations that distinguish them from one another.

Spiral Galaxies

Irregular Galaxies

Irregular galaxies do not have a distinct shape and often appear chaotic and asymmetrical. These galaxies can be the result of gravitational interactions with other galaxies or intense star formation activity. Irregular galaxies tend to have high rates of star formation and are more common in the early universe.
