New Delhi: Indian Railways plans to make use of its surplus land to generate 20 GW of renewable power from ‘Made in India’ photo voltaic or wind tools to energy its community, Commerce, Trade and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal mentioned on Wednesday.
He mentioned Indian Railways will likely be a 100 per cent electricity-driven rail community in coming years which might make it the most important such community on this planet.
“We plan to make use of lots of our surplus land and land alongside the tracks to generate 20 GW (gigawatts)…’Made in India’ photo voltaic or wind tools getting used to offer us 20 GW manufacturing capability of renewable power and sufficient KW (kilowatt) hours to energy our complete railway,” Goyal mentioned.
He was addressing CEEW India’s programme on ‘Powering Livelihoods: Remodeling India’s Rural Financial system with Clear Power Options’.
The railways could have to both broaden battery storage or different types of storage for this, he mentioned.
